At peninsula Cosim reeds were harvested for roof construction

NR Cosim Peninsula

The peninsula of Cosim is a former complex of beach ridges and salt marshes in the lagoon Achterwasser south of Usedom island. Reeds have occupied the site because of abandonment of land use and meadow breeding waders are lacking. By resumption of extensive land use (grazing and/or mowing) we want to restore the natural characteristics of the site and facilitate the breeding of meadow birds again.

If vegetation is held open, common ringed plovers can breed on the mineralic sites. (Photo KP)

Swans breed in the reeds, unfortunately often visited by egg thieves.
