At peninsula Cosim reeds were harvested for roof construction

NR Cosim Peninsula

The peninsula Cosim is a former complex of beach ridges and salt marshes in the lagoon Achterwasser in south of isle Usedom. Reeds have occupied the site because of abandoned grazed meadows, so breeding waders have lost habitats. By resumption of extensive land use (grazing and/or mowing) we want to restore the natural characteristics of the site and facilitate the breeding of meadow birds again.

Northern lapwings will gain new spaces if the meadows are held open. (Photo KP)
